Security in Afghanistan Is Deteriorating, Aid Groups Say

KABUL, Afghanistan — Even as more American troops flow into the country, Afghanistan is more dangerous than it has ever been during this war, with security deteriorating in recent months, according to international organizations and humanitarian groups. Large parts of the country that were once completely safe, like most of the northern provinces, now have a substantial Taliban presence — even in areas where there are few Pashtuns, who previously were the Taliban’s only supporters. China calls PoK 'northern Pakistan', J&K is 'India-controlled Kashmir'

Saibal Dasgupta, TNN, Sep 2, 2010, 08.12pm IST BEIJING: China on Thursday denied a report that it has deployed 11,000 soldiers in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. She was replying to questions about a New York Times report saying that China has sent 11,000 soldiers to Gilgit-Baltistan region. Jiang also made it clear Beijing will stick to its policy about stapled visas for Indians living ...

The money is believed to have been part of 150,000 pounds handed over by an undercover News of the World reporter to the alleged fixer Mazhar Majeed , the newspaper said. The cash, given to Majeed for fixing three no-balls of the Lord's Test between Pakistan and England , is understood to have been secretly marked so that it could be later identified by police. According to the report, the recovered money was undergoing forensic tests to confirm police suspicions that it came from the News of the World sting. "Early indications suggest the money found in possession of Butt originated from the sting. There are good reasons to believe this was the case," the newspaper quoted sources as saying. The revelation came afte...
